Nerhosshia Davis-Smith and Kirk Smith
"Our love story starts and grows at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ State. We met our first week on campus as Freshmen in 1993, Nerhosshia was from Louisville and I was from Barbados. I saw her at an off-campus party, but she was not impressed with my approach. It wasn't until I ran into her leaving a calculus class that she finally relented and agreed to give me her number." The relationship blossomed as they took long night walks through campus getting to know each other. During their undergraduate years, he was occupied as a scholarship athlete on the track team and she in Speech & Debate and as a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. He knew she was the one long before they would graduate. He popped the question on Valentine's Day in his dorm room in Clark Hall and she, of course, said yes. A short three weeks later they were married at the Calloway County courthouse. They graduated together in 1998, her with a BS in Biology, and he with a BS in Computer Science. They then shared another graduation day in 2000, both with Masters of Science. Their very last night living in ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ, they took a trek to the quad to nail their shoes on the tree. After leaving ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ, they settled in the Washington, DC metro area. They now live in Alexandria, VA, and have been married for 24 years. She is an Industrial Hygienist at the U.S. Department of State and he leads sales teams for Cisco.
