Minor in Data Analytics

The MINOR in DATA ANALYTICS (22-24 hours) is useful for those wanting to get a general understanding of the now-popular "Data Science" career path. The choice of courses gives students a sense of preparation needed for a more thorough immersion in Data Science. The knowledge domains span Computer Science, Statistics, Business and Information Systems. The list of classes are shown below. Please note that some of these classes may not be offered every term. So, please talk to the chair of the department and plan ahead.

Program requirements

Complete at least 1 of the following:

  • CSC145 - Introduction to Programming (3)
  • CSC232 - Introduction to Programming in C# (3)
  • CSC233 - Programming in Python (3)

Complete at least 1 of the following:

  • CIS407 - Advanced Database Management (3)
  • CIS509 - Data Management for Data Warehouses (3)

Complete at least 1 of the following:

  • CIS543 - Advanced Business Analytics (3)
  • CSC508 - Advanced Machine Learning (3)

Complete the following:

  • STA465 - Applied Statistics I (4)
  • STA567 - Introduction to Time Series Analysis (3)

Complete at least 2 of the following:

  • CSC375 - Introduction to Machine Learning (3)
  • CIS361 - Developing Data Products (3)
  • EES202 - Introduction to Geographic Information Science (4)
  • EES205 - Mapping for Society (3)
  • EES512 - Remote Sensing (4)
  • EES521 - Geographic Information Systems (4)

Six hours must be upper level courses completed at ºìÐÓ¶ÌÊÓƵ State University.
